34" long, 19 1/2"wide, 27 ht.at top of the dome. Canvas covered(back is toasted so I'm stripping it off) nice heavy hardware(marked with an S) ,I believe to be "Sessions" hardware.But I could be wrong. The S may stand for something else, like possibly M.M. Secor not sure.No interior label, Cool pivoting steel/ brass plated lock assembly No pat.dates present,anyone with the key ,fork it over! Awesome lithographs inside this one is a Favorite now. One of the 6 trunks I'm currently working on.Going to a friend when done.
I too believe the S stands for JH Sessions Trunk hardware Manufacturers, but I yet to find any proof. The lock was patented by Hillebrand on Sept. 27 1887 # 370622.
I have made keys for these, but had to disassemble them to do it. I will post some pictures soon.

Very nice Drill!! At first glance, I thought it might be metal covered until I read your story behind it. I have a very similar metal covered that has and alligator embossed pattern on it. My trunk is the same size as this one as well. Sorry to hear the canvas has dry rotted on the back side. That would be incredible if all of the canvas were still in good condition. Still very nice indeed!!

Thanks guys,Yeah the canvas was torn there was a little fungus growing underneath it to ,glad I stripped it. I really don't like leaving canvas unless it's a french one. Seen to much under 'em I guess. Selling smaller metal one on e-bay right now buyer is paying in full in the morning it will be in a mid-evil movie/film shoot I told. I'll post it here after it's sold.
Its ok to sand and stain or replace under burlap and broken wood strips on vintage trunks? It doesnt hurt the value of the trunk. G.
