Hello all. I got this piece from an estate in Florida. It a metal box with what looks like jade slabs. Surely this is not jade but some kind of look alike. I don't know if you can call it filigree but as you can see there is a floral and leave design on all panels. I don't know what it is for. Maybe a trinket box. It measures approximately 6 1/2" x 4" x 1 3/4". I believe the metal is brass. Don't know if it is Chinese, Japanese, American, Mexico, Indian, or from the moon.

Has anyone seen something like this? What was its purpose? Any info would be appreciated.
    Have a blessed day.

Could this be a Tiffany Studios Gilt Bronze and Slag Glass Stamp Box? Seems these have Tiffany stamped on them. I cant see anything stamped on mine. There are however some numbers etched on it. Looks like 4686. The bronze a greenish layer of build up on it. If it is a Tiffany should there be a mark on it? I really don't want to clean it because I am afraid that I will somehow mess it up in value. Here is something similar to my box. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tiffany-Studios-NY-Gilt-Bronze-Slag-Glass-Pine-Needle-Desk-Dresser-Box-809-/331391761608?pt=Antiques_Decorative_Arts&hash=item4d287cfcc8

Hmm does seem similar and your box seems special. Maybe contact Tiffany?

Art all Tiffany pieces marked? I can't find one on here.

Most all are stamped. The marking can be very small and difficult to see. Take a good look on either side of 4686; I have to use a magnifier to see the Tiffany marking on my inkwell (same pattern): http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/63312-tiffany-bronze-and-glass-inkwell

You can also find similar items made by Riviere and Apollo Studios. Ex Tiffany employees, with knowledge of the process to make these, produced similar wares to the Tiffany items.

This is commonly referred to as a Handkerchief Box.

Regardless of which house made it, it is a nice find.

.....and do not clean it other than with very mild soap and water to remove loose dirt and grime. a couple of drops of dish soap in some lukewarm water, and clean it with a soft tooth brush. If you do so, dry it off very well after cleaning it... A hair blow dryer works well to make sure it is dry around the metal.

The marks, if it has any, should be on the underside of the box in the metal.

Art glass, motif metal (not filigree) is vine/grapes, it seems old european (quite austrian?)

If this is not Tiffany, and marked, it is definitely one of the other studios, most likely Apollo. It is an American made box for sure.

Ha! Finishe to write and sent my comment after the tiffany studio part!
      Could be this!

I do believe it is a Riviere Studios Slag Box. I still can not find the mark. There is a lot of green stuff which could be hiding the mark. Don't think I should try to clean it. I don't think it is a Tiffany though.
