This bowl was the first ever Lötz item that was bought because of its mount. We got it a couple of weeks ago in an antiques fair and it certainly was the only item worth attention in the whole fair.
Neither the bowl nor the mount are signed, but they really show the higuest quality in their finishing. The bowl's made in the quite common Cobalt Papillon decor and amazingly it's in perfect condition and has the typical polished pontil mark, even if the shape isn't intended to stand on its own.
As for the mount, it's highly Art Nouveau in style. It reminds a lot of the work of Gustav Gruschner (specially the way the ladies's hair becomes part of the mount), although we're not too sure it can be attributed to Gruschner.
it stands 28 cm and is 35 cm at its widest.
stunning!!! iam speechless!!
It's wow!
Really great looking piece!
Stupendous! But, as with the other one posted, this mount unfortunately is not in the Gurschner catalogue raisonné. I do suspect, however, that this mount was made by the same firm as those producing the mounts with the floral spray side motifs.
Striking combination! Thanks for sharing.
It must be difficult to decide what to feast your eyes on in your house(s). Nice problem though:-)
The epitome of Art Nouveau :) What a find !
Thanks for the many loves, guys: CZECHMAN, SEAN, JEWELS, AGH, NUTSABOTAS, MAC, COGITO, VIOLET, RUSTFARM, FAMATTA, MAGADALENA, VET, DAVE, BOHEMIAN, BRATJDD, SKLO, PARIS, MIKE and PATSEA!!!
So, cogito, is there such a thing as a Gurschner catalogue raissoné? Would love to have it :) his work's amazing! (although at some point he reached the absolute kitsch :) ).
I wish we could find which firm was that!!! by the way, am I right to think that both this mount and that in dave's European friend's weremade by the same firm?
Now that's about as Art Nouveau as they come. Nice.
It is, Dave.
It's funny we all have got the idea that art nouveau in Vienna was just sezessionstil and Wiener Werkstätte, but in fact there was actual art Nouveau made there around 1900, as this mount seens to indicate, or the one in our other very art Nouveau Lötz vase http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/49257-letz-phnomen-tiffany-art-decoration?in=666-liked-all-time
We've got some postcards too from the time and in spite of their authors being considered masters of the Sezession and the WW, they're also this Art Nouveau
Sweettttttttttttttt.
thanks ROYCROFT!!! :)
WALKSOFTLY nad LOETZBUDDIES, thanks for your loves!
DROP DEAD Gorgeous !!!
Oh, wowzer that is Stunning !!!!
You must be walking around with one less arm and one less leg after buying this BEAUTY! RER(BOB)
Austrohungaro - there is indeed a Gurschner catalog raissoné, which was produced in the early 2000s by one of the ancestors of Gurschner and produced solely on CD-ROM. It took me 4 years of constant searching, and frankly...begging, to obtain a copy. It is probably not entirely complete, but it has come in handy. I would also say that unfortunately, the same Gurschner ancestor was casting new pieces from molds made from authentic Gurschner forms. I have seen a more than a few of these newer reproductions floating around on online and in the auction houses and being passed off as period antiques. When it comes to Gurschner, if one isn't careful you can get burned.
Amazing!!!
Thanks so much for your love ANTIQUEROSE, DrFLUFFY, LOUMANAL, LOETZDANCE, KIVATINITZ, GLUECHIP, CINDB, PHIL, SOUTHCOP, RHINOMAN, RADEGUNDER, MAGDALENA and SHARE!!!!
LOUMANAL, believe me, this was bought for a small portion of its actual value. The sellers are especialized in one kind of ArtNouveau and this item doesn't fit at all with it... we think they didn't even now the bowl 's by Lötz... the tag prive wasn't high, but we still managed to get a discount.
COGITO... interesting news about G. I think that the new ones should b marked as new -as they usually do when reediting design or art items. If this guy doesn't do (and according to what you tell me it seems like he doesn't) he will harm himself and the name and work of Gustav Ggurschner. sad.
Stunning !! love love
thanks for your BIG LOVE, MANI!!!!
It really looks like the same kind of face! no doubt they're from the same maker, just like dave's feind's bowl. :)
