I bought this can opener/bottle opener and ? at a yard sale. The person said it had been in the family for years-maybe the fifties? It is approx. 6 3/4" long and the middle is about 1". The man said the round part was for putting caps back on???As you can see there is a little red button on top to use to open a cap? What is the other round side for???? The item is maybe hard plastic? Clueless??? Would like to know when it was made and who made it and what the round side is for??? Any help???
I'm no expert but just thinking out loud: if one side was used for putting the cap back on, perhaps the rounded other side was for reshaping the caps before they were put back on. You know how bottle caps can get misshapen when they're removed. If they were unevenly bent, I could see how a nice round bump like that might help give the cap some shape before putting it back on... I'll do some more research but that's my first guess.
I'm with arluckett. In the 1950's a bottle cap had a cork liner. when you pried one side up is was "out of shape". Now if you placed the cap back on the bottle and pressed the round end over the top it would force it back onto the bottle, sealing it.
See if the red button is spring loaded to eject the bottle cap.
Thanks for the info? This is a pretty neat thing!
