Can you tell me anything about this jar? I've looked and looked for something like it. It's a Ball Perfect Mason with a zinc lid. Ball is embossed on top of lid and inside is a white material. I think it is a pint size as it stands 5.5” high. I think it has SURGRIP sides which would date it to 1935. Aqua color. There is a 1 and an A embossed on the bottom.

What is different is that 3.5” from the bottom there is a (probably) zinc ring around it. The zinc ring is also on the inside. The rest of the jar with the lid sits on top of this ring. The original jar is most likely broken as the whole unit is in 3 pieces but for display purposes it's intact. I have to downsize my possessions and don't want to dump anything that might be significant.

Try to get hold of the ball archives in Muncie, Indiana. That is where the jar was made. I've seen most, but never one like this. It might be a prototype that was never offered for sale. Good luck

Thank you so much, I will try. If I get any information, I will be sure to post it here.

I have never seen one like this either. My closest guess would be that you could turn the upper portion upside down to use as a funnel thereby keeping the top of the jar clean so it would seal better. I would definately hold on to it as it seems rare.

I just ran across a web site that has on line answers about antiques. It's called "just answer.com". Maybe they can help you with this.

I have some Ball canning jars that were my mother's just want to know if they might be worth something today. I have three pint size jars that actually have the measurements going up the one side of them. One has the number 14H on the bottom, one just has the number 48, and the other has the letter H and a 9 on it. Anything you can offer would be great.
