New to my ever expanding collection is this little French beauty... "Coffre de Grande Magazine de Louvre" makers of fine French trunks for a premier store in Paris "Le Grande Magazine"... that went out of business in the 40's...
This trunk is lightweight with vellum on the corner slat clamps that give it a sophisticated look... the lock has the Lion on an "L" signature mark...
Smaller size and shaper -- truly delightful.... thanks goes to Drill for finding out the maker for me... and for his general helpful trunk knowledge...

Here is a link (hope it works)to some of the history of one of the First and Grandest Department stores in all of France The Grand Maggasins. They were established in 1852 and was dismantled in 1943.They sold everything there. As you know T-man I search quite a bit and have only seen the markings of the Lion and pillar 5 times in the past 10 years.It is a French trunk bucket list item for me. The trunk is a little tattered but I love it all the same. I encourage others to Goggle : Grand Maggasins images. You will be blown away by the incredible scale and opulence of the building interior and out.Nice find pal.
Trunkman, this is one SWEET trunk!! I love everything about this. I really love the color combination of this one. What does the interior look like? Just curious is all. I have yet to stumble across any French trunks here in Kentucky area. Guess I'm gonna have to start traveling a little further away to find one. Really nice find indeed!!
So you are going over to French. I can understand it but when I say it with my Alabamese accent, the "Frogs" cringe! Some have shrunken as much as 5 cm & never seem to regain it, even yrs. later.
