This bowl I purchased in a small art-gallery in Barcelona that was especialized in glass... a rare thing in Spain. I was just back home (and for good) from my stay in Florida and Ireland and during a short trip I made to Barcelona that Autumn I run into this shop in the Barri Gotic. I loved the work exhibited there and I couldn't help buying this one plus a small glass bowl that broke during the train journey back to Madrid. So sad. It had very thin walls and now that I think of it, I sort of remember it looked a bit like a Cascade bowl.
I've always found this bowl sort of mysterious... those black and white glass incclusions, the small dark green ones., the irregular top rim...
At some point it doesn't fit in my collection as it's the only art-glass item I've got (all the rest being design-glass), but I think will keep it forever... I love it!
Karen Lise Krabbe is currently one of the best Danish glass artist. Although she focused her studies in the fields of language and literature, at age 42 she went to glass school in Aarhus, Denmark, and in 2004 she opened her own glass workshop (that's the year I purchased my bowl in, so my guess is that it belongs to her very first period) and last year she opened her own gallery.
Her current work is fascinating. She uses forms taken from Nature, and the finishings and surfaces are amazing. I heavily recommend a vist to her website http://karenlisekrabbe.dk/en/
