This old man with the ear trumpet for a hearing aide was given to me by a friend a while back. I simply can not remember what country my friend got it from but it's painted on horse hair.
She framed it in the 70's so I'm guessing that's the year she purchased it.
There was a matching old woman she wanted to give me too but has since passed.
Here's what I need to know. In the second picture, you can see at the bottom the paint has loosened and fallen over the years. I want to open the back and take it out, yet I'm thinking the rest of this painting will crumble by doing that as it's already disintegrating. Am I right in just leaving it?
Thanks for your help.
Personally!.. I would just leave it, if you could take it to a professional or even a museum maybe?..and see if they can advice!...it's wonderful!..I love it!...:-)
Thanks inky, I figured that's really the best way. I do feel too that the whole thing would crumble if I did it...
Agree with Inky! This is so strange, a portrait with ear trumpet AND on horse hair!!!
LOVE ALL OF YOUR GREAT NEW FINDS!!!!!
This painting is probably from Ecuador. We have three that are similar. We were stationed in Panama and traveled to Quito where we got them for gifts for my wifes mother and uncle.
We can provide pictures of all three. These pictures seem to be rare in that most people do not know the origin. They are definitely unique. Great finds.
