I need help identifying this unique tool,I've searched the net but can't figure this one out. It's used to cut something and middle of handle has an area that looks like it's used to squeeze something and one of the handle ends is pointed. it has a mark on it but I can't make it out.

I suggest you pursue the marks you cannot make out. Some of the tricks of the trade are, wire brush it, then run a stick of chalk over the mark. Another is wire brush it, then lay a white paper over the mark, and transfer with a pencil lead. If you can at least make out part of the mark, post it, and I will dig again for your tool. I have some guesses on your tool, but none of them have panned out so far.

Guessing: Is it not a cutter for cutting lead slugs to length in the printing industry?

      When type was hand set?
