This is one of the first trunks I ever restored. It was in very poor condition when it came into my possession. Turned out to be quite a tough one to do.
It's covered in alligator embossed tin and has quite a bit of very heavy ornate hardware on it. Check out the fingering on the edge of the lid. I'm assuming it's made of cast iron, as it's very heavy!!
The wood trim was very severely weathered from the elements and had to be stained. Still, with the condition it was in, I thought it turned out ok.
Two shades of green went onto the embossed tin, to try and bring out the alligator print, and multiple coats of polyurethane to protect the painted surfaces.
I am going to guess this one from the 1870's to 1880's. But, I could certainly be wrong about that
Thanks for looking!
