When I purchased this vase I bought it as a Japanese work but was puzzled by the signature on it which read "Marino".
Sounds very Euro, I thought, but after lots of internet frustration I was able to identify this as a work of Mari Noguchi from Japan.
(see now the Marino makes sense!)

Mari Noguchi is a very successful and well known glass artist in the architectural art glass realm, and has made glass art installations for many major buildings throughout Japan and broader Asia. Photo 4 is an example of one such work.

I am not informed of her ventures into small glass art except for this piece.
I don't know if she blew the sphere and then worked it, or if she just articulated a sphere blown by someone else.
No matter what, this bowl is a great piece, even if I failed to photograph it well.
It is made from a beautiful inky blue glass that has been acid etched in a fluid and organic pattern. With light behind it, it glows with movement and sensuality. It is a seriously beautiful if subtle piece of art (to me at least!).

    Sphere is 20cm diamter
