Upon my latest adventure I came across this Silver Vesta Table/pocket matchcase. Not sure what era or maker as I am unable to find any Vesta's with the clasp top. At first I thought it to be a Boar/pig, yet kind of looks like a mouse with cheese.
This is really neat!
This looks very similar to a newer cocktail shaker manufactured by Restoration Hardware in the shape of a polar bear: http://www.goantiques.com/rt-deco-chrome-46471005
I wouldn't be surprised if it was part of the same giftware line.
stunning!!!
Cool , the link says it all :-)
Look up Henckels . I just identified a smoker companion with similar parts. I know they also made a cocktail shaker in the early 20/30s. Love it, nice condition.
I appreciate all the help. So far I have hit dirt. Went to a local Antiques shop in Colorado springs first. They first tell me they can't tell anything about it. Nada. They carry over 100 quality silver pieces. Yet couldn't tell me if it was real They put a magnetic piece that didn't stick. Then goes to tell me its not a possible table/fireplace match case. Fine..so what is it? He had no answer but to degrade it to a 5 dollor offer claiming since he didn't know..it was worth nothing.
I wrote Jensen Silver as they offer similar pieces. Withen minutes I received a reply from the owner himself. He enjoyed viewing the piece yet could offer nothing but "Beautiful".
Thinking it would be nice to see if I could get some metal specs on it I took it to a local metal buyer. The counter guy first tells me it is a nice silver piece. Dropped it on the scale. Then says to me" Did I say Silver?"....Then goes to tell me he has no clue on what it is made of.
And finally...I put in on "Lofty"' only to get a reply that they dont waste their time on pieces less then 500..
If a person, expert, or Antique compny can't tell me what it is... how would they know this pieces value. Let's just say...it is a possible match case for a fireside, smoke den or kitchen. If it possibly a Ronson table matchcase/safe. Era is prob around 1920. Prices I have seen are from 35 to 1250. Yet thiat isnt really the reason why I am here. Haveing this piece now for years I hate to see it go yet with medical bills piling up. It would be just nice to know what it is before parting with it.
