Hey guys! I've got a mystery for someone to solve if they are up to the challenge.
I just bought this little guy at a community closet downtown because I couldn't pass up his adorable little face, but I've just spent some time researching and I can't find a single thing about him.
I have no intention of reselling him because I'm already very attached, so I'm not looking for an appraisal, I'm just looking for some history or background information so I can figure out where he came from.

He's about 12 inches long, his head is hand painted and porcelain and I'm not an expert but I believe the outfit was made after the original doll and put on by another owner because it's condition is much nicer than the stained, hard stuffed canvas body underneath. However, if the outfit is original then I believe he was made in Germany because of the language on a tag attached to the side of his pants. It simply says that he's not made for children under the age of 14, that's all. Again I'm not an expert, but I believe his hair is a high quality form of mohair that was glued on to the original head.

I don't think he is old enough to be considered an 'antique' but I'm pretty sure he's at least vintage judging on what I've seen of the body underneath.

I'm kind of scared to take the outfit entirely off, but if I can't get any more info I might pull the whole thing off and attempt to look for tags, stamps, or any other company logos.

I really appreciate any help I can get on this, thanks for your time!

His head looks like hard plastic to me not porcelain . I would say he is 1980's era from photo . Sold as a collector display doll . Look on back of neck for markings ok . I would love to see more of body .

I know that the pictures make him look like hard plastic, but I'm pretty sure his head is porcelain. This is a really weird way to prove it, but my fingernails make the same clinking noise on his face as when I tap on a porcelain plate I own. Its cold to the touch and slippery. I just looked on the back of his body and found some strange markings I hadn't noticed- in blue pen there is a number one, a number eight, and a backwards three. Really strange....

I can tell it is hard plastic by nostrils and how the shape of them is sharp edges unlike porcelain. Can you photo back of neck ? Hard plastic feels like what you describe also . The material on hands is consistent with a newer doll . I would like so see neck also .

Are marks on body or head ? Is back of head as hard as front ?
