I restored (repurposed) this little stagecoach trunk a couple of years ago. I say it's a stagecoach trunk, but not completely sure about that as it does have rollers on the bottom VS. skids.
I refinished the exterior and completely relined the interior, using the original lithograph that was inside the lid. I tried to keep the interior as close to the original design as possible (I have a lot of antique style wallpaper in my shop to choose from).
The handles and end caps are original. I simply re-wrapped the handles in canvas, just as they originally were. I made the leather straps, on the front, but the buckles are the original buckles.
As for the painted design, I must have been filled with the Christmas spirit at the time. But still, I thought it turned out well.
The trunk is rather small (about 26" X 12" X 12"). But, I love the small trunks, as they're a lot easier to work with and easier to store as well.
This one now belongs to one of our local Priests' who was thrilled to have it. I know he's taking good care of it.
I'm not truly sure of the age of this one, but I'm guessing around the 1860's to 1870's.
Thanks for looking!!
Scott
Wow -- a real beauty! I have yet to tackle an interior -- you did a fantastic job on this one.
Thank you T-man!! My work can't compare to yours and others on CW. But, I do try. Interiors are and have been something I do enjoy. But, it is very time consuming. This interior took most of a day to complete.
Thanks again, I do appreciate the kind comment and the love!!
Jscott... you are among equals my friend.... I know my quality wanes substantially as I am not a perfectionist and am way to impatient to ever be one... so your work is an inspiration...
Thank you T-man!! That really means a lot to me!! Truly!
T-man is correct,Don't kid yourself your trunks are among the best on this site. I love the smaller older
trunks in your fabulous collection , they are sometimes hard to find . I think it's because you have them all Scott, Ha! I like that X-mas spirit on this trunk. The interior is clean and well done as usual. Side note: I will try to get pictures of
hat pins up when I can.
Thanks for the comment and love eye!! I do appreciate it very much!!
Thank you Drill!! I do appreciate the kind words and the love!! I can't wait to see those hat pins. I have several, but none that long.
