I am now the proud owner of this bureau trunk. The problem is it’s over 1200 miles away. A relative picked it up for me and it will take six months to get here, were driving up for summer vacation. ( I really really want it now) I was not going to post it until I could get good photos; I am using the ones he used to sell it, but just cannot wait. He knew nothing about the chest and I have only seen one like it and it’s on this site, MLyons had a variant of it about a year ago. As usual I did a LOT of looking trying to get a few answers but I did not find anything. I figured with such a distinctive lock, someone here will know what it is. I also found the slat clamps really cool. This puts me up to seven trunks and I have only refinished one with two close to completion. Will post if I ever get them done. The learning curve on metal as well as wood work has been steep but loving it. As always, thanks for everything JonB

What an exceptional trunk! I recall seeing one only -- and I have seen a lot of trunks.... this one is very nice indeed. I have this type of trunk as the last on my wish list of styles, or a variation of it, but the swinging doors opening like this is fabulous! Thanks for the great post...

Thank you for the reply trunkman. The only problem with so far is, I can’t even look at it yet. I Hope you have luck finding exactly what you are looking for. From the quality of trunks you have found so far and displayed, I do not believe you will have any problems at all.

So close, So close and yet so far. It's a song I think .It has to be frustrating not to touch it ,but it will come. The greatest thing about Trunking is,it teaches you patience. The hunt,A good refinish or restore, it is all patience. I searched For My Bazar Du voyage (One of France's oldest Malletiers)for 10 years it eventually came. What we focus on at any one given time is what we get! You at least know that it is yours. Good luck with the piece when you get it,It is a spectacular find !

Fabulous trunk, JonB! It's in such great original condition and appears to be unchanged, which is great. This trunk deserves to be well preserved. I wish it were me driving to pick it up..... I had a similar bureau trunk that I found in KY a couple years ago, which I should have kept, but it is now in Australia. Mine was very similar and was made by Oshkosh Trunk Co. and had their label. Another company that made this style was the Chicago Bureau Trunk Co.. There were a couple others, but these are very hard to find, as all the trunkers on this site know. Thanks for posting. Thank you for the comment and I might get my hands on it early. There is a Oshkosh bureau trunk somewhere on this site. Pretty cool.
