This was my grandmother's and I really know nothing about it. I love the inlaid design with a grasshopper and dragonfly. Hoping someone can help me out as I have lots of questions about it. There are 5 bowls nested inside the round outer box. The outer box is about 3" in diameter and 2" tall. The material is very thin and lightweight. The exterior is a deep dark greenish - not true black - with a somewhat pebbled surface and matte or satin finish. The insides are smooth shiny red. The insects have extremely fine gold highlights - legs, antennae, wing veins. What is the country of origin? What is the proper term to use to describe it and what is its use, decorative or functional? What is it made of - papier mache? How old is it? Thanks for any help on this cool little object!
