This is the pièce de résistance of my collection thus far! I've been actively looking for an authentic brass bed for a while now. The criteria: the "right style" (for me), full size (3/4 beds are a pain to fit with modern boxspring/mattress sizes), good condition (this bed has very few minor dents and will polish up splendidly!), within a reasonable pickup/delivery distance, and at an affordable price. It took two years for the stars to finally align to acquire this beauty at $150.

The bed had been sitting in a shed for a few years so I plan on disassembling all the parts for cleaning and polishing, but will allow it to gradually return to a uniform tarnish/patina, perhaps with the occasional light polish - I don't care for lacquered brass.

Surface rust needs to be removed from the rails and then I'll construct a frame to hold a modern boxspring. It's going to probably take several months of work before I'll be sleeping on it but hopefully I'll be whistling a certain Bob Dylan tune the whole time and not cursing the day I bought it!

The people I purchased it from were the 2nd owners and they bought it from the original owner, a farmer in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Canada. They've indicated they'll send me the history of the bed as it was told to them, so I'll post that here if/when I receive it.

The bed is 54" wide x 80" long; the headboard is 55" high and the footboard is 36" high; a standard full size 53" x 74.5" boxspring/mattress will fit nicely. It weighs approximately 130 lbs (59 kg).

Yup, that's the whistlin' tune Scott!

Thanks for the comments kyra & CindB. Had a good close look at it yesterday and there are a few missing pieces that I'll have to source and the rust is a bit more extensive than I initially thought. Still happy with it but it's going to be a much bigger challenge than anticipated to get it back to the condition I'm hoping for - just what I need... another project!

Oh.My.Goodness! I WANT ONE!!! I've been looking for one like this for a few years now and HAVE NOT been able to find one in my area.

I feel your pain! It took me a couple of years of active searching as well (monthly scouring the local online Buy & Sell sites) before I finally nabbed this one. Even then it was located far beyond my travel zone to make it worthwhile without becoming cost prohibitive. Fortunately my seasonal weekender neighbour was going to be in the area of the seller several times over the period of a couple of months and offered to pick it up. But then the seller was in the middle of a move and it seemed like nobody's schedules synced. It took a full two months down the wire (mid-November to mid-January) to secure the deal and there were many times when I thought it had slipped out of reach. It was a very good day when the pickup truck finally pulled into my driveway - perseverance is all I can suggest!

      Very romantic, love the style!
I imagine it with an old quilt in white with delicate laces details and embroidery :)

VV, white and lace sounds difficult to keep clean (!), although I can appreciate the authenticity for the time period. My mother is a quilter and I'm hoping to persuade her to make something like this for me, which would fit nicely with my Country-Victorian decor: http://www.thetrendybed.com/quilts/vhc-luxury-bedding/prescott

That's what happens when you leave the chambermaid responsibilities to Mother Nature. You don't even want to see the condition of the bathroom!
