I have a German Camera & original leather case here that I have no clue about. I have looked on Ebay & Googled, I see others like it. I can see numbers under the front lens, looks like # 2888503. Almost hidden under the lip of the lens
.It is in "good" condition, I do not know how to test it to see if it works
Thank you so much Phil. I will follow up on your advice & try to find a catalog & film.
Ann
This is a Rolleicord I with the art deco, nickel plated exterior made from about 1933 to 1936.
Thanks rniederman. I took it to a Photo Shop, the 'taking' shutter is not working. There was a roll of real old color film in it, but the guy told me there is only 1 place that would develop that kind of film. They do it once a year & it's $60.00, if you get pic s out of it or not!
The man at the shop offered me $20.00 for it, to set it up on his display shelf, where he had several others, but no Art Deco. I kept the camera. I am curious as to whether there are any pics on that roll. But $60.00!
It's good you didn't sell the camera for $20. In excellent and fully working condition it would have a collector value of $150 - $200. The non-working shutter does decrease the value a bit, but it would still be worth much more than $20.
rniederman, He said the shutter repair would cost about $150.00. I like the camera, have never seen an old one like that. I would like to sell it though, I have no room for more 'things'! I would sell it 'as is' maybe for a display for a collector.
Thanks to all of you for your responses!
Update on this camera:
Thanks to all of you for your good advice. I wanted you to know the outcome of my Rolleicord.
I found a company online in California that processes this type of film. They were very helpful. They told me I had been lied to about the fact the film was color ( it wasn't) and no one could develop the film but as I was told ( see above story). That was a lie also.
Anyway, I sent the film to Ca. The total cost to me was $27.00 They made no promise I would get any pictures. But, I did get 1 picture. It is a little girl on a see-saw.
I now only can imagine her story. I think I know the name of the person from
whose Estate sale I bought the camera from.
I will. I'm still holding onto this camera. It has a story I find interesting. Thanks
