This is from my grandmother. It is monogrammed on the top with her initials, NFN. It is about 3 inches tall. I thought that it was cut glass but am wondering what type of glass it is.

agree, very nice : ) there are pressed glass patterns with similar zipper & slash motifs, but this looks to be cut glass to me...
Agreed, it does appear to be cut. Do you know how old it may be? If it's from the American Brilliant Period, it should fluoresce under a black light (usually green, sometimes a purple-ish hue, depending on the minerals used.)
This piece is from my grandmother who would have bought it before 1914. She comes from a very wealthy family so it was probably purchased for her around 1905 when she was setting up her wedding chest. I have heard that there are sometimes markings to indicate the maker but I can not find any.

Sunnybrook, old ABP will flouresce green under a black light or not at all. If it flouresces purple that is just reflection of the light.
Check the rim of the lid, if it’s silver, it may have hallmarks, which could help identify the maker, or at least the country of origin
Thank you. The lid does have sterling on the outside in the rim. There is a very small hallmark, a line with a circle on the top but it is very small. Later I will try to magnify it and see if I can get closer. It may have been purchased at Gorham and Co or Caldwell since many of the other pieces were purchased there.
