Found in the old barn yesterday under layers of hay, and can't find ANYTHING like it on the internet so far. It's probably 24"x12" roughly (haven't measured), substantial weight. Looks to be brass sign with porcelain black coloring and the lettering looks like it was red. No substantial dents, but does have rust. The logo, numbers, etc are all pressed/stamped and , and the little holders are individually held on by clips through the sign, onto the back. I knew the original property owner all my life. He passed away at least 20yrs ago in his upper 70s. He was a lifelong mechanic/bodyshop owner so I know this had to have been his originally. Would love it if we turned up 1-50!! Will keep digging. Such a neat find! I personally have collected old SWBT/Western Electric signs and just think this is a super neat "new" find.
If it's rusted it is not brass. I'm sure it is pressed steel.
You will like this, it does have the keys. http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/10236318
Thanks, AzTom! Good point. The back had a brassy, or almost "copperish" color in a couple of areas that didn't have the rust, so that kind of threw me off. LOVE the pristine example you found!! I'll share with my son who made the find!
This was a dealer's master set of keys for the Model T,if you had all these you could start any T!
Neat info! I hadn't even been able to put a date on it yet - that helps! So tonight, I get to go home & tell my 19-y/o who found it all the great Model T stories my mom told me!! Thanks!
