The latest addition to my hat trunk collection. This is an English made lady's hat trunk. I believe this was made by John Pound & Co. (but could be wrong about that). This is a very fine example of a high quality hat trunk.
Other than a good brushing of the canvas covering, a little mink oil on the leather trim and a minimal amount of brass and copper polishing, this trunk is still in superb condition.
The interior is lined with a blue and white striped fabric and still has the original hat pin cushion holder clips. Though the hat pin cushions are missing, as they usually are.
There are still several travel stickers remaining on this trunk. It had once traveled to Kemble in Gloucestershire, England, as indicated on the side of the trunk. The sticker on top of the trunk indicates that it once traveled to Euston, England as well. So, looks like it did a lot of travel by train, in it's day.
This trunk was made around the late 1800s or early 1900s.
Thanks for looking!!

Thanks to you jscott :)
I think when you work you are preserving them for that they continue telling their stories for generations to come, truly are witnesses of the time.
I think it's great! I don't often see hat boxes that are actually in the shape of a box...they're normally rounded!
