Its a banded agate most likely from Brazil. Although agates are found all over the world. Each country has a specific type as well as similar types. If your book ends were Lake Superior agates they would bring a nice price here in Minnesota. Whats nice about your set is that it looks like they have natural color I see a lot of Brazil agates that are dyed with awful neon colors. Google agates and you will find a whole world of info. Hope this helps.

Around here, these are known as THUNDER EGGS. Look that up on the internet, Nyssa Oregon ( a small town in eastern oregon) has a huge thunderegg celebration every year, as there are lots of them around the area in the right places. They are ugly on the outside, but beautiful when cut and polished
