Last Sunday I saw this framed tile at the monthly Fair and decided to take a punt on it!

I liked the subject of the boat and waves - it had a certain Arts & Crafts look to it.

    Tube-lined Delft!

The frame looked vintage ... front and back.

    Nicely framed.
The papers behind were intact and I do not want to open them - yet!

    Mystery solved by ARTISLOVE !!!!

    I really should have known!
Porceleyne Fles Cloissonné ..... Royal Delft.
    Plateelbakkerij de Porceleyne Fles,
    Delftsche Aardewerkfabriek De Porceleyne Fles.
The frame is 19 cm (or 7.5") square.
The tile is 1o.5cm (or 4.3") square.

    I found it on a site :
Ned. platbodem ( gele lucht )
Dutch flat bottomed vessel ( yellow sky )
    10,5 cm x 10,5 cm
    L.E.F. Bodart 1888 - 1933 designed this tile.

"Tegel in cloisonné-techniek, met voorstelling: Nederlandse platbodem, vervaardigd door de Porceleyne Fles in Delft, naar een ontwerp van L.E.F. Bodart, ca. 1915-1960."

A great piece! The framing is interesting - I have never see a professional framer wrap the paper so far onto the frame (??) Who ever framed it though, had an artist eye considering the depth/width of the frame, I think, overall adds to the piece.

That link is an image search. I am very good at this computer thing, I believe. You will not have any issues with clicking it. Do not know how I can assure you any higher. Your choice of course. BUT THERE IS NOT a problem with it.
    18. cogito cogito, 10 years ago
Very nice, but unfortunately I suspect you are going to need to crack open the back of the frame to find out definitively. What strikes me about the piece is the multiple gradations of color within some of the features, like the waves and sail. Haven't seen that before.

Many thanks for your input, COGITO!

Around 1900 the whole production had been placed in a new building at Rotterdamseweg Delft, a location where the production is still alive at this moment. Also around this time - from 1902 - new cristalized glaces had been used by Mauser. Also lots of experience had been done with new items and technics like Berbas pottery, Reflet metallique, Sectile tablets, Jacoba pottery, porselain-bisquit, New Delfts and Cloisonné.
The first cloisonné tiles - 1907 - had been used for wall decoration in the railway station Hofplein in Rotterdam. A big advance with this kind of tiles had been made around 1915 due to the designs of L.E.F. Bodart, Arum en Oosterloo. Beside thematical segments ( ships, windmills, flowers ), later on there were also produced tiles for remembrance and - by order of other companies - reminder-/commemoration tiles.
In 1909 the factory "De Porceleyne Fles" had got the qualification "Royal".
Cloisonné tiles had been produced between 1907 and 1977. The production had been stopped - for factory economical reasons - at 1977. The labour-intensive handwork and the high labour costs were due to the fact of stopping the production of cloisonné tiles!.
