    (756 items)

Yesterday was the first Saturday of the Month Market at Surry Hills here in Sydney. I got there late just wanting to say hello and Happy New Year to the people I know there ...... but arrived home with two items !!!!!

This is a piece of glass that I could not resist at the price.

    It is large.

    13.5" or 35 cm across.
    3.7" or 7 cm high.

A nicely ground and polished pontil.
    No signature at all.

Quite hefty ..... 66 oz or 1.87 kg

I don't think it is WMF or one of the Scottish factories.

It has been suggested that it is similar to the Isle of Wight chargers.

I'm open to comments from the CW crowd.

Colours are gorgeous, as you say a bit WMF, but a modern shape. I know you have probably been down the Australian path. It's an accomplished piece....why don't they sign it?! Great buy Kevin.

My guess.....newer Murano Glass. My lawyer office had some New glass plates/charger (as Art in stands) like this from Italy. They had labels on them -- just newer art glass for decor

So that is where I would lean towards ........but still a ??

    32. Alan2310 Alan2310, 10 years ago
I want to ask you a question, when we talk about the pontil, it is the piece where they cut the Glass, ??after the blowing ??
I just start glass collecting, so i ask stupid question. :(
    33. vetraio50 vetraio50, 10 years ago
      That's it!

Le pontil in French is the ' la canne du verrier'.

The pontil mark or 'punty' is the mark left when the pontil is removed from the object created. It can be left as a rough mark on the piece or it can be ground off and then polished in some cases.
