Just received this one from England. It's a lady's hat trunk from the late 1800's or early 1900's. It's patent leather with leather trim.
Very rare to find these with all of the leather intact. This one still has the leather flap over the lock. Those are most always missing. This one also has it's original key and the lock works great. The interior is original. Nice heavy brass lock and hardware. Copper rivets are securing the handle hardware and the hat pin cushion clips.
The hat pin cushions are missing, as they usually are, and the leather securing straps have been replaced at one time or another. Still, a really nice trunk. I'm willing to believe that this was made by the John Pound & Co., but not completely sure about that.
Thanks for looking!!
Scott
It's gorgeous and in great shape.
stunning!!!
Nice one Scott, looks to be in very good condition. Thanks for sharing!
I am too Patsy...I just wouldn't have been able to afford this stuff anyway!
Another great trunk you have here Scott.
Thanks eye!! Yep, a box for a hat. Actually, this one would have held up to 4 lady's hats. Thanks for the love as well!
Thanks DrFluffy!! It is in great shape, which is a rare thing to find. Thanks for the love!
Thanks Sean! And thanks for the love as well!!
Thanks pops!! Glad you like it!! Thanks for the love as well!
Thanks Pat!! I agree with you and racer4four. I can't imagine anyone having to buy a special trunk just to carry my hats. Thanks for the love too!!!
Thanks racer4four!! Yes, I guess one would have needed to be well off financially, in those days, to be able to buy a special trunk for carrying their hats. And this would have be considered a very high end trunk at the time. Thanks for the love!!!
Thanks for the loves

Wow, that looks really nice for something that old. Must have been one of the lucky few that found several good homes over the years.
Thanks FatBoy64!! These types of trunk are pretty tough. They have no wood in them at all. So, one of the worst things that ever happen to these is that they get crushed. Finding one that still has it's original shape is tough. Thanks for the love FatBoy64!!!
Thanks for the love kyra!! Very much appreciated!!
Thanks for the love JonB!! Much appreciated!!
Thanks for the love Drill!! Much appreciated as always!!
Thanks trunkman for the love!! Much appreciated as always!
Did not get a chance to comment -- another wonderful hat trunk!! I realized that this type/style of trunk is not in my collection so I have a line on what looks like a French one I will see tomorrow... (has vellum trim). Suffice it to say that you have a wonderful collection of these great trunks and I rarely see them come up - so thanks for the inspiration!!!! (this one here -- full leather AND key -- c'mon now)
Thanks T-man!! This one has became one of my favorites! It's one of the few hat trunks that I own that still has it's original key and working lock! I hope I get to see the French one in your future posts! I've really became partial to these old hat trunks! Wish I could find one with all the original hat pin cushions.
Hey Scott, If you goggle : (John Pound & co. Trunk catalog) one of the sites that will offer up will be( Saddlery and Harness volume 15-page 10 google books.) there is an
advertisement for John pound 1906. There are descriptions of some of John pounds
Trunks, Cloth, canvas, Leather, etc. If you continue to scroll you may find other British trunk companies as well as (saddles and harnesses of course). There are many of these volumes for this British trade journal of the time period. There are other advertisements from trunk manufacturers as well. You will find suppliers(Makers) for your hat pin cushions in other volumes as well. Good luck and enjoy.I was unable to upload pictures or links for this web site to collectors weekly or I would have done so.
Thanks Drill!! I always appreciate your comments and the wonderful information and links. I've really grown to love these old English made hat trunks. They just seem to be so well made and have a great look about them. Thanks very much!!
Thanks for the love Trey!! Much appreciated!
Great little trunk and I love the look of the leather trim and handle! Many very nice trunks were made besides those LV trunks that are over rated in my opinion.
Thank you Marvin!! I completely agree. I love these little trunks. They're well made and really tough to find in decent condition. The LV trunks are nice, but way overpriced. Thanks again!!
Trey,
Thanks very much for the love and for stopping by. Very much appreciated!!!
