Made by R.E. Sells . Custom made Tennessee Percussion rifle. The stock is super premium curly maple with tight cur over the entire length. Stock is stained a medium brown color and is excellently finished to emphasize the figure in the wood. It is mounted with a typical Tennessee style steel furniture including the buttplate with extra long tang, large rectangular sideplate, banana-shaped patchbox, hand-forged trigger guard, octagonal ramrod thimbles and nosecap. A small German silver washer surrounds the single sidelock screw and a man-in-the-moon inlay on the small cheekpiece is also made of German silver. The furniture all has a nice artificial age to it which gives the gun a very pleasing appearance. A silver over inlay on the forward portion of the patchbox is engraved with the letter "S." Double-set triggers are present The lockplate is a front action Goulcher which is perfectly inletted into the wood. The barrel is a .50 caliber octagonal and 40 5/8 " long. It is mounted with a silver blade front sight and Kentucky style rear sight. The barrel is signed in script on the top flat by the maker. The barrel also has a nice age patina which matches the other furniture. The overall condition is as new.

I'd switch your pictures and make #2, the lock plate, the #1/ preview photo. It will attract much more attention with that image.

Yes, I've noticed no good category for this sort of thing. I left my commemorative rifle posts in the "General (Multi-Category)" category.
On the other hand, CW is not shy about re-categorizing items when they think they are in the wrong place. If there is a better place for this, you'll get an e-mail telling you the category they moved it under.

I probably would have chose art deco or electrical (something) as they are never happy with what we chose & change it anyway. Beautiful piece of art. He has made an honest replica & proud of his work, so signed it. I haven't ck'd him out, but he is almost a master. I've made a few & of course see details that I wouldn't have used, but not here to be critical of a beautiful piece. I'm impressed that you appreciate the quality of work so much. Most people just skim over the details & don't appreciate the luv put in with the labour. This man is good. I would like to see a pic showing the piece from the butt plate facing toward the muzzle real low, to see if he got the "Golden means" correctly. (that slight cant that makes perfection). That isn't something taught, but is a "feel" that many reproduction makers have trouble mastering. It is what gives the "right" feel when you shoulder the gun. That natural feel & point. Not easy to achieve.

The pic should be from maybe a foot behind the butt & aiming down the length of the gun.
