Hello All!,
Cheers from snowbound Cape Cod!
The sun did show itself today, a glorious sight!
I took a shopping jaunt today, found this in Falmouth.
Business has been so bad at the shop where I found it, that everything was marked half off!!
I thought this was a treasure. It's from the First Corps of Cadets in Massachusetts, founded in 1741.
The motto " Monstrat Viam " is Latin for ' It Points the Way '.
The Cadets, like other volunteer militia units, began attending summer training sessions lasting several days. The Cadets also observed their organization day with a parade on Boston Common in addition to parades on Independence Day, Patriot's Day and other civic holidays. The Cadets often escorted the governor to Harvard commencements. This was appropriate since the Cadets always had a large number of Harvard graduates in their ranks from the colonial days up to World War II. Since the Cadets were organized as an infantry company, a state law passed in February 1861 restricted their strength to 100.
This trophy may have been awarded for a competition that took place during one of those Summer training sessions,( the one in 1903:)
I'm still trying to figure out who this Corporal G. E. Tent is,( or is it Jent?, I'll check it out and get back to you if I find anything )
I hope you're all very well,
warm regards, Tony.
