I added two pictures from the side, one with light shining from the back. What causes the cinnabar and calcification?

Also like your lighting arrangement. Hey, it worked!

I am still curious how the red color get there. It looks like it can be deep into the jade. Also what is the white calcification. Is it something that grow on the surface or is it transformed from the jade itself. Can someone recommend a book or article about this subject? Is there a way to tell or estimate how old this thing is?

The additional images kinda confirmed my doubts about the piece. The proportions of the piece concept (check out the eyebrows one longer than the other, very crude work) and what seems like obvious (again) fairly modern machine tool marks. Do not get too carried away with the cinnabar and calcification as the Chinese are experts at falsifying them to make plain stones look old.
