    LaceButter…

Hello! About a month or so ago, I purchased this antique drop leaf, gate leg table from a used furniture store. It's in fairly rough shape...lots of varying degrees of scratches on the leaves, top, legs and the finish appears to be faintly crackled over the whole table...but regardless, there's something about it that I really love, and I think it's a striking piece.

I've been trying to find more information on it...the era it may be from, if it's something common, etc. Here's more specific info -

It appears to be made of mahogany, and it has 6 legs, ball and claw feet. The two extra legs support the sides when it is open. The extra leaf folds in half and hides away in the center when not in use, and I recently discovered after a little struggling with it, that to open the center, I had to pull on a thin wire hanging down underneath on one side, which opened a small latch and allowed the pieces in the center to be pulled apart. I've never seen anything like this before, but then I'm no furniture expert. As far as markings...there is a stamp underneath in black that says "DUPONT" (as pictured) and a "32" in two places above two hinges on one side. The hinges appear to be brass or brass plated, with faint stamps on them in a heart shape that say "SW".

I'd love any feedback, opinions or insight into this piece. Also if it would be a bad idea to try to fix it up, ie would it harm the value? I'm planning on keeping it, but still curious as to its value or if it's a bad idea to try and restore it a bit.

    Thanks in advance!
