Very late 19th century image showing students with their cadaver at a medical school.

I have no idea of where the school was located-- the photographer may offer a clue.

The acquisition of cadavers was a nefarious practice in these times as "donation" of bodies for medical research was not a mainstream idea.

One guy looks like he is checking for a pulse! Maybe he just died.

Yep-- looks that way. I have seen them before with students shaking hands with the cadaver!

Pretty gruesome shots but these cadavers were essential to the study and advances made in medicine and health treatment.

Fascinating photo of time and place.
The boys are real likely lads by the look of them!

      Awesome photo.
I think that the young man is holding the arm with love and compassion, look at his eyes.

Thanks for looking and commenting pease. I buy from many places: online, antique stores, shows, estate sales, etc... I deal in antique photos, so I have a large collection and a large "selling stock".

I purchased the photograph in this listing at a Civil War and Militaria Show.

My father was a doctor & I grew up with a real skull in the hall closet wrapped in a green surgical cloth that we could take out & study anytime. It had cutaways & decals for veins etc.. Was interesting & now probably explains a lot about me that I'm sure some have been wondering about!! LOL!! Talk about a skeleton in the closet!
