Thought I'd post this for Katherinescollections as we both seemed to have the same mystery mark on our pieces that was driving us crazy. Well it turned out to be good old Avon. They are nice Victorian styles necklaces though. I have the ear rings for mine. I removed one of the fastners and saw the Avon with NR mark on the back of them so mystery solved. The drop on my necklace is only marked with NR so without the ear rings it might still be a mystery. The NR is most likely just the company code for the manufacturer they came from. -Mike-
beautiful!!!
Mike, the pictures aren't clear so I can't see the hallmarks myself. Can you look on the clasp of the necklace and see if Avon is stamped on it? Also, can you match the NR on the earrings to the NR on the necklace? Third, does the NR on your necklace and earrings match the N R on my necklace?
I think I am working on a theory here, so any further information would be helpful.
This gets more confusing by the minute...lol. Well there's nothing on the clasp. It's a lobster claw type. As for the mark on the pendant it's kind of mis-stamped so I see it as an " M" "A" at times but it's most likely an "N" "R" Simple plain initials nothing fancy. The ear ring fastners are stamped NR on the top and Avon in an oval below that. They appear to match the necklace stone wise and have the same rosette design as the necklace by the post. So I'm at a loss then as to what we have here.
They certainly do look alike. Sometimes Avon jewelry is marked on a small hanging oval tag. It's possible the tag came off, or someone removed the Avon tag from the necklace in order to sell it as something it isn't. If you got both in the same batch then likely the tag just fell off the necklace and it is Avon. Without being able to see clear pictures, it is also possible, though less so, that they aren't actually a match, just lookalikes.
Could you tell me if the NR on the earrings are close together and raised, or stamped into the metal?
Also, is the letter spacing and font on the earrings the same as on your necklace?
Also, do the initials on either the earrings or the necklace or both match the N R on my necklace?
I am still on track with my theory about this.
I did purchase these together Katherine. We were sorting at Salvation one day and they were in a little box together. The ear ring's NR is close together on the fastner but that's probably just a space constraint because there's not much surface area there. It's stamped into the metal and not raised. The pendant however does have a one letter space between the letters but it's stamped into the metal too which makes it look blurred. Every time I look it looks different either N H M the other letter looks like an A or an R at times. It has the same brass finish as yours but mine has a chain extension with a ball on the end but no tag.
As an aside ......I just got my e-mail notifications back after a few days from CW. Seems I was on their "bounce" list for some reason. I wasn't ignoring anyone just wasn't getting comments or posting e-mails from the site. I wrote them, so yours came through to my e-mai like beforel so I guess it's fixed now..yeah :)
Just strange.
Okay, well I'm over it, lol. Who knows what the story is? :)
I agree..... it is what it is.... or not.... or could be...oh the heck with it...lol
Hi Mikelv85
I'm just wondering if the stones in this necklace are tell or not. Am considering buying one just like it and the seller isn't sure so I thought I'd ask you. Please let me know if you know whether they are our not. It's such a pretty piece!
Sorry. That was suppose to say real, not tell. lol
Hi Chrsxtn, these pieces were made by Avon and are not real gemstones.
