UTOCO is really the Utah Oil Refining Company acromnym. I hear that it came about after Standard Oil bought stock in the Company and began to influence the marketing. This sign actually came from a very small town down in Southern Utah very close to Zions Canyon. It had been on a gas station in town and the old guy that took it down saved it, along with a very nice 6' Round UTOCO sign. A couple of Utah Pickers knew about it and bought them and took them to a Utah swap meet where I found this. I am still mad at myself for not buying them both, but the prices were much higher than we were accustomed to pay so I held back. DUMB move!!!!
This sign is not touched up and is said to be in the best shape of any UTOCO sign around? They are pretty rare signs and very desireable out here in Utah and Idaho where most of the chain of stations were located.
