Helene Marie Stromeyer, born in Hanover, August 26, 1834. Studied at Dusseldorf Academy, was mentored by more famous artists, and apparently worked as a nanny in England. Her specialty was floral and landscapes. Her work realizes fair values today, ranging in the thousands. I still can't find this particular painting so can't give you the exact title, but now at least I know the name of the artist. Will pull the paper, nails, and backing to look later at the picture so I can tell you what the work is printed on.

SOLVED: PatSea, you are an absolute genius. Thanks so much for the link to the site, took all of five minutes to find the artist.

Would be a great help to take a pic without the glass....

Wonderful and a great find ! :) I love original oil paintings....but they're almost as frustrating as jewelry when comes to ID'ing them .

I have changed picture #4 for a close-up of the signature, can't take it out of the frame at the moment, but you can sort of see it a little better?

Thanks for the love, Vladimir, aghcollect, PatSea, DrFluffy, PhilDavidAlexanderMorris, racer4four, gtmoom, and mikelv85. :)

GTMOOM, I can't take it out of the frame at the moment, but I posted a different pic of the sig, see photo #4.

Thanks for the compliment, Nadia, yes, I think it is rather pretty.

Thanks, mike, I don't know whether it is actually a painting or just a print or what. I don't know anything about art, and really don't have much of an eye for it, so rarely buy a piece unless I know the artist or the work. This was just so pretty that I brought it home, and would like to know who did it. :)

      Could it say Niemeyer?
    9. katherinescollections katherinescollections, 10 years ago
Hm. Possibly. Thanks, GTMOOM, I will follow that lead. :)

Oh hah, I removed it, PatSea. I felt as if I wasn't really going to get a satisfactory answer to the question. The mystery of the mysterious marks is one of those things that will remain unsolved, I think.

Try a UV light to get a better look at it:)

Oh, thank you for the suggestion, Trey! :) And thanks for the love. :)

Art experts all over this site and no one can ID this painting??? lol

Trey, no joy. Another mystery unsolved forever.

      PatSea!!!!! You did it!!!

      Thank you so much!!!!

Yes, I found it -- her!! The information is posted above. Thanks so much for your help, PatSea, and for the incredibly useful link!! Bookmarked it. :)

I opened the picture and it is as I suspected, a print of one of her paintings, now the frame and glass are all nice and clean and everything is as it should be, ready to hang and admire. I love when mysteries are solved, thanks a million, PatSea. :)

Let's see the painting, PatSea, maybe not Zubek?

Also, some painters are local and obscure, I think, probably that site only works when the artist is famous and the works are valuable.

Thanks for the compliment, Shawnl86, yes, I think it is very pretty. :)

And yes, PatSea did a wonderful job for me, unfortunately we did not have any luck IDing her three pieces of artwork. :(
