This is one of my favorite antique chairs. I found it years ago under an abandoned old house. The wood looked white because it was so dirty and dry. But with lots of linseed oil and some tlc I found a beautiful piece of furniture. I haven't been able to find any photos anywhere of one like it and would love to know its origins if anyone out there can tell me something about it. Is it Italian, French?
That is an interesting story about what the linseed oil did for it. I have some ocean front property in Kansas if you are interested.
I used a whole quart of pure boiled linseed oil which was applied daily for a month. The dry wood readily soaked up the oil. The boiled liseed oil is a much thicker oil than that in most furniture oils like that in old english. All I can say is seeing is believing, try it sometime.
Goodness, you certainly gave me an education about the merits and use of boiled linseed oil.
