TrunkerMar…
(32 items)
This small trunk looks like a hat trunk, but was custom made by C.A. Taylor Trunks of Chicago as a ticket trunk. These were made for performers of traveling shows, Vaudeville acts, circus acts, etc., to collect tickets as the customers came into their tent or show room. This one has the Taylor brass label on top and also the special ticket slot in the lid. It has very strong hardware and brass lock all marked with the Taylor name. This one has the original canvas and hand painted name of Pearl Tangley, "Theatre". She traveled the country for a couple years, from around 1905, and was known as the "Mental Marvel", her own mentalist or fortune telling show. It sure would be interesting to know all the places this little trunk has been! These ticket trunks are shown in the Taylor Trunks catalog I have from 1908 also.
Thanks for the loves people! I appreciate it and hope you don't mind me not listing everyone here, but thanks!
Great trunk Marvin ,Love the original covering left on it. Maybe you could pay for the Mentalist show with this thing, looks like it would fit the slot.http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=339905&d=1332408082

Hi Marvin, My real curiosity is weather this trunk was owned by Norman Glenwood Baker,The one who started the vaudeville troupe with one of multiple Pearl Tangley"s as the headline.
You could not get a more colorful character on the planet, having created the Air Calliaphone. Broadcaster, radio station creator KTNT, Senate (candidate),Governor of Iowa( candidate) .Mail Fraud prisoner ,and the list goes on. Just some food for thought.
Hi Drill, yeah I had done some research on Pearl Tangley and Norman Glenwood Baker when I first obtained the trunk a few years ago. I had found the pictures of that unusual token and it is certainly possible that those were used for the admission, or they could have been a souvenir I suppose. And yes, the trunk could have been owned by Norman and used by his troupe of course. Either way, it's the name and history that is so interesting and it is the original markings. I appreciate the effort of the research though. I had printed out the history information I had found to keep with the trunk. My kids probably wouldn't make the extra effort to check out the history. Thanks!
Marvin,What an amazing piece of history
I’m so glad that the right people find these trunks..
