As collectors we all go through phases where we focus on one thing or another and lately I have been focusing on Hoya Crystal.
Hoya no longer make decorative crystal - since 2009 their production has been involved with the spectacle, photography and other specialist lenses part of their business.
This sculpture was one of a limited range made in the late 80s/early 90s, and to me shows an exceptional understanding of light refraction.
Made from one piece of crystal it has been cast and cut on the back side to give a perfect, 3 dimensional, and very detailed, picture of a balloon flying over mountains.
It is beautiful and incredibly designed. I'm sorry I am not a good enough photographer for it!!
Height 16cm

Breathtaking, Karen......more so when you see the back and get an idea of the skill that went into it.
Thanks Peggy and it is amazing. In the window light rainbows are refracted from it and light my room - it's a two for one beauty!!
