Glass paperweight measuring 2.75" in height and about 3" in diameter with a snake design and four small canes with the date 1852. Any information regarding the maker or if it is actually newer would be greatly appreciated!
    thanks!

Murano Italy ?? Canes look murano, but I am always still learning too.

You could also check with Alan (in UK) - to see if he could advise, as he is a world of knowledge. If you do, post back to us too,

Virtually all year dates on canes in antique paperweights are made with only one number per cane. In other words, year dates in old weights are generally made up of four canes with one number per cane. The individual canes used for date years in old weights are generally much smaller than the decorative canes within the same weight.

This modern millefiori paperweight is "dated" in large numerals 1852. It was actually made in the 1970s.
