This is a remarkable 4 wick betty lamp, the latter type as opposed to the ones with the single spout. These crude lamps were filled with fat or blubber, then a simple wick was added at the spout. It was then lit, but only offered very minimal amount of light. These were mainly meant to serve as portable lights to be hung on the back of a chair or perhaps stuck into the wall or beam.
This is a very fine example decorated with "squiggles" and jagged pointy "sharks teeth" at the ends. It is a very very nice piece. Hope you enjoy!
