trunkman

I love the look of these older trunks. This one has great little latches with a pat. date of May 11th 1875. Bonus too that it has its original tray inside. I have not got around to re-doing the interior yet. I had a big hole where a knot popped out -- I have replaced it but am not satisfied with the plug so I will re-do that patch. The brass always stands out on these... I shined up the braass but left a little dull patina on it for effect. Had to move around the brass tacks as there were four missing from the top.
Trunkman, I love this!! Love those crazy latches on the front. The first of this latch design I've ever seen. Looks to be brass bound. Very nice indeed!! Well done my friend!!!
Jscott -- thanks so much -- first time I ever saw them too -- they have a little latch on the side to hook the pin from the top -- wish I had a steadier hand for the close-up. The latch is all patent information -- like that's the decoration.... the info... too funny. Well I am at the point of saturation now... gotta let some go.... :(
My wife has dared me to bring another trunk home, until I get rid of at least 1/2 of what I currently have. So, I guess I'm finished with trunks for now (unless I find a good hiding place for any new ones:)
Very nice find Trunkman .Here is the pat.May 11 1875 A.V. Romadka http://patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/pages/US163028-0.png
Much luck with it ,I like this type of trunk with the slats on top.
Drill -- what a fantastic piece of information -- Thanks so much for sending the link -- Romadka bros. lock... cool....
Ur Welcome T-man, they are neat little latches, do they work ok?
Unfortunately one is broken... the pin going down -- but both little latches work. Kinda neat -- love the unusual look of them...
Very neat.. you don't see the early Romadka latches very often. I think they made a couple variations of these latches.
Thanks Marvin for the comment... I did not think I had seen this latch before so it is always fun to come across new old stuff....
Trunkman, how old is that newspaper inside the tray? I'm seeing ties for .50 cents and topcoats for $9.00. Early 1900's?
I keep coming back to this and your post has now added another trunk I will be searching for. Love the latches.
