German Kid Doll
23" L
The back of the neck is marked 62. After looking in 2 different doll reference books I cannot find any information on this mold mark.
In the third picture the line that goes down the side of the face seems to be in the mold or is this a perfect crack.
The also came with an 1899 penny.

What is pate made of ? The part that covers hole on top of head ? It should be stuck to underside of wig perhaps ?
Because she is not marked by a Company Logo and that she was produced prior to 1891 we can only got by features so the pate is a clue . I do not see Germany marked on her but is German
A large percentage of dolls made prior to the 1890's were not marked at all. In 1891, a U.S. trade law required all imports to be marked to indicate country of origin. By then the great majority of dolls manufactured in Europe, Britain, and Asia were destined for American, making identification of post - 1891 dolls easier for today's collectors. They are marked!
Oh the mark you see on side of face is a mold mark where to sides of head were joined , It is not a break :-) She is a typical dolly face and she has no distinct features like a character face in that they all looked much alike in face . Her body has much repair but she is a early bisque doll , I will await your reply about shoulder plate mark and pate . If pate was not cork we can rule out Kestner who did at times use just a letter but I think your mark is a 62 rather than a G .
Kley & Hahn did 62 mold number .
My feeling is she is a Simon Halbig doll . Some dolls we have to go by the quality since early dolls unmarked like yours by a company are very difficult to ID . I would say Early Simon Halbig . I have seen this mark before and no one cane be sure books change their minds from author to author on the mark .
Coleman's Vol II they identify the 62 mold as Kley, but not in Vol I. Your doll does not look like kley & Hahn 62 at all to me !

Thank you Manikin for your help. The pate is cardboard almost like a thin wood. The shoulder does not have any markings that I can see on either side. She has red dots in the corners of her eyes. Does this mean anything? Should I take the tissue out of head?

It is not a break it is a mold marked where 2 sides were attached , She is what we call a unknown doll because she predates company logo. So that is what she is called " a Unknown German Socket head German doll " The experts can not say for sure just who made her .
