Hi,This crystal Italian compote is a item i purchased with a set of five murano alexandrite Italian art glass with controlled bubbles fruit pieces at a auction, funny thing with both pieces was no one was bidding on this compote, and I was sidetracted talkin to guy from auction about another compote I purchased, when I turned to finally watch to my luck in not payin attention(usually you lose by not payin attention) the auctioneer added the 5 murano alexandrite glass fruit to the compote to "sell" the compote so I bid and one person did against me and dropped out quick so i purchased all for $12.00 not a joke I actually didnt even know what I had till auctioneer told me to check on stuff cause I got the steal of the auction,I got home and put away well two days later I took glass out and to my shock seen glass was a different color, was purple one minute then blue the next, looked up glass but still dont have info on compote in full, thanks for looking!!!!!
I have one very similar. Have been looking everywhere for info on it....this is the closest I've come. I was hoping for some comments!! ;) Mine is just a little larger....there's more brass, prisms and another section of glass between the marble base and the crystal bowl that I received from my grandmothers estate. I wish I could post a picture with my comment.
I just bought one very similar to yours. I have it still at work so I can’t post a photo as of now but I will do so soon. Mine doesn’t have the marble base but it has a sticker inside saying that it is hand-cut lead crystal, made in Germany. Based on that and the style of the item, I believe that it might have been made around the 1940’s before manufacturers clarified if the item was made in West or East Germany.
When searching on line I found one compote that had actually two stickers still intact: One like mine for the crystal and one on the marble base stating that that part was made in Italy.
I hope that this information helps you a bit.
