Thought this was an interesting example of a "trench art" lamp though I believe it was made between the wars, possibly in the 1920's or 1930's.

The main body is a brass shell casing. Parts of '20's to '30's (?) sconces with matching painted shades were used for the lights. Nice use of bullets for the pull chain drops. All mounted on a turned mahogany base.

I especially liked that the decoration included an image of "The Spirit of St. Louis". The prop is done to suggest it is spinning. Consistent with what I believe to be the time period when I think this lamp was made. Lindbergh made his historic flight in 1927.

Note also the zeppelin. The Hindenburg??? If so, would date this lamp to even later, say after 1937?? Not sure about that point.

Also note the American eagle clutching a star and bar shield.

Great trench art lamp! I am a collector of trench art and am always amazed at the quality objects turned from War refuse.

      Scottvez,

Thank you for your kind comment.

Truly is amazing how someone can creatively turn a basically useless a found object into something useful . All the more amazing when one considers these were objects of destruction. Swords into ploughshares, artillery shells into lamps!

Absolutely Amazing Lamp! Great Find. I love the way light reflects on shiny metal body. Would you mind sharing how did you find this Lamp?

Thanks for your kind comment. Just found it in a rather junky large group shop that is part of the regular "picking route" because interesting stuff shows up!
