A Garrard & Co Vintage silver compact. Garrard & Co were established in London in 1735 which makes it the oldest Jewellers in the world. They were the Crown Jewellers to the British Royal family and were charged with the up keep of the Crown Jewels from 1843 - 2007.
Here is a Solid Silver compact, hallmarked Birmingham, K which is for the year 1959.
In my opinion it is beautifully enamelled with a wonderful scene of a flying swan just taking off from the water. The enamelling is in perfect condition no damage what so ever. The details and colours are amazing.
I was wondering who could have been the enameller, may be it was enamelled in Austria, I'm under the impression that a lot of the enamelling was done there.
Many thanks for looking
stunning!!!
More than stunning... BREATHTAKING quality! Garrard is a plus too :-))
TOP QUALITY !!!!!
I was wondering if anybody knows what the numbers are beneath the hallmarks.
I think it is the numbers inscribed in the facturation book of Garrard when factured.
Could be too for a repair (hinge, polishing etc) inscribed too in their facturation book.
You may email them to confirm :-)
Many thanks SEAN and vetraio for your lovely comments and love
