This was some of what she carried in her billfold/wallet of the day. A picture of "her man" (my dad) and her Georgia drivers license (I see where she paid $1.00 to the Ga. DMV of the time for the issuance of this drivers license) and a dog tag?? I kinda pondered on the photo that my dad gave her that she always carried. This was what he looked like in 1941 when he left for war. Not a bad looking guy. Very "dapper" with the cool hat, don't you think? And mom looked good also at 5 foot 2 and 108 pounds. (this according to the stats on her drivers license pictured above) I've seen many pictures of them together and they "were" a fine looking couple, if I do say so myself.
could the dog tag be another form of a drivers' license? I know at one point they looked similar to dogtags that you hooked on a keychain. Cool momentos of your parents!
I'm pretty sure that the dog tag has something to do with my mom having access to the base where my dad was stationed before he left to go overseas. And/or it also could have been her ticket to "on base" shopping where items of the day, like today, are a little cheaper. I say this as just a hunch because my dad's military serial number along with her and his name and their address are all included on the dog tag. But thank you very much for the observation and the comment.
Very cool! Like a vintage PX card! :P
I agree totally. Thanks VikingFan82
Very good. Thank you so much for the info and for the links. In addition, thank you for taking a look at this item and for taking the time to comment. I really do appreciate it.
Thank you again for your comments AR8Jason. This helps a lot to understand just what this dog-tag means and what it obviously meant to her. (my mom) Your daughter will thank you one day when she's old enough to have yours. It's good that you are waiting a while to give them to her. Also want to thank you for your service to our country. It's because of the "great generation" that we are not all speaking German or Japanese today. Thank you & God bless you and yours.
Regardless, you still served and the sacrifice was still there. I thank you and your country thanks you.
What a nice looking family you have. I bet he broke many hearts back in the day.
Wow! I feel like I'm going to cry.. I came from 22 foster homes and institutions,
and readind about family and having things passed down is the best thing ever.
Thanks Hopester Peace!
P.S. Your father was quite a looker!
