Won an estate auction lot containing a lot of historical items. The matriarch was a collector and we have found items 1800's - 1960. We found this. It looks like an old pillow maybe? We have no idea. If it has potential historical or monetary value we don't want to toss it. Any info you could provide would be so helpful as we have no point of reference on fabric collecting.
Its quite small looks around 25 inches square ??
Could it be a prayer mat?? Looks quite old ;-)
I haven't measured it but it appears to be 2ft by 2ft. It's a very "flat" kind of pillow. It might be a prayer mat. Thanks for the tip, I'll Google and see if I can find anything similar.
Vintage Pillow Sham, I think it is..
I say that as on the back it looks like it has a opening in the middle which I have seen in pillow shams. Does the back opne??
Vintage Pillow shams Come in different sizes. Could be French, could have been owned by someone important. Could have been in a flood, but saved....
It could have several stories, but it much have meant something that it was kept when worn so bad.
Maybe there *WAS* royalty in their Family history from 10 generations ago.....
Have you looked inside to se if there ia anything there??
...I mean does the back OPEN? (not opne....LOL)
It does not open. It is fabric all the way across. When I googled about the prayer pillow I saw a lot of tapestry pillows that were similar with the fringe, but nothing really close. Quite the mystery. They were an affluent family that traveled and really had some historic pieces. Ben Franklin's bed for one. She was a collector that lived in a home 4 floors, each 5, 000 sq ft full of items, and an attic with multiple rooms. I don't know if we will ever be able to identify this stuff!
