It does not open. It is fabric all the way across. When I googled about the prayer pillow I saw a lot of tapestry pillows that were similar with the fringe, but nothing really close. Quite the mystery...
I haven't measured it but it appears to be 2ft by 2ft. It's a very "flat" kind of pillow. It might be a prayer mat. Thanks for the tip, I'll Google and see if I can find anything similar.
