This ice bucket design by Revere of Rome, NY is one of my absolutely favorite Machine Age designs. So much, that I have a pair of them! They are pretty rare to find these days, and I'm glad I collected two of them years ago. The last time I saw one for sale on a website, it was priced for around $900.00...and it evidently commanded that price since it is no longer listed for sale.

The design is attributed to William Archibald Welden, circa 1941. They are made of chrome spheres and butterscotch bakelite or catalin ornaments. It is such a futuristic and space age design for that period of time. This item appeared in the "Gifts 1941 Revere Copper And Brass Incorporated" catalog. In that catalog, it was called the "Hot Or Cold Server," #144A, and it originally sold for $5.00. The catalog says it can be used to keep hot food hot and cold foods cold, and it also mentioned that the lower half can be used as an ice bucket.

When I bought one of the pair, it had a period cobalt glass line in the bottom of the bucket, but the original Revere catalog description doesn't mention anything about it having a glass insert. So, I'm not sure if this was an ingenious add on or an option when originally purchasing them.

The last picture shows one of the ice buckets displayed with an Art Deco chrome bar tray, as well as some Chase "Old-Fashioned Cocktail Cups" (Catalog #90063) and "Old-Fashioned Cocktail Muddlers" (Catalog #90065). Circa 1930's.
