I found this in one of my antique purses I bought online. I'm pretty sure the owner of the purse had no idea this was even inside the purse. I have no clue what it is. I put the nickel in for sizing. If you have any idea what it might be please feel free to comment!! I can't find any information on the item.

AR8Jason is on the right track. I think pinwae was a hair perm solution and this was for setting pin curls.
HAHAHA thank you for your advice AR8Jason!! I'm OK with them having no clue what it's like to collect amazing objects with an interesting history behind them!! Maybe someday I'll get them interested in antiques/vintage items!
Since I'm from the present and use electric curlors to do my hair, I don't understand how such a tiny clip would work to curl or perm a woman's hair. Would they need a ton of them in order to curl the hair. I'm going to have to google this again now that I have a little more information! Very intrigued!
