This is a large Prototype Model from Martin Marietta ca.1960's. It could be a Manned Orbital Laboratory or early Space Station concept. The capsule shaped piece with the wall details and instruments is about football size to give you a scale reference, the piece has a clear floor showing through to the other half. If you spin it 180 degrees, you'd be looking at another room using the same floor. It has a galley. bunks and other luxuries like the stationary bike and zero gravity toilet complete with seat belt!
The outer shell is thick clear plastic, it has a metal ribbed cage on the inside to show the structural details. The nose section is polished chrome and has a spring loaded tip on it (?) might be a docking port. It all comes in a fitted case with the model makers name written on it. I was able to trace the mans family down and confirmed that he had worked at Martin in the 60's and 70's but they didn't want to share anymore than that.
If anyone has any other info on this project, I'd like to hear about it!
