Alex Tremulis Spaceship Hood Ornament from 1949/1950
Never mounted. Stellar condition.
Alex Tremulis was the father of UFO & flying saucer art. He made the concept drawings of what we now know as old UFO drawings & illustrations.
He also was the designer of the Tucker Automobile & had a hand in the design of today's space shuttle.
He designed & made this spaceship hood ornament in 1950 & only around 4,000 were made. Extremely rare in any condition but mine is unused..never mounted & the Bakelite spire is not broken off.
It illuminates from the inside & the bulb looks brand new. I have the original box but it is in rough condition.
I am quite proud of it but ...
I have had it over 30 years & found it in my grandfather's barn tucked away under some junk. I am so glad I found & kept it.
I'd love any info on any others that may be in existence. Everywhere I look I see that they're not a common item.
Sweet!!!
I know somebody who would have loved seeing this ornament. RER

The person that should not be named! Valentino do you think Harry Potter's enemy?
So... we won't have his expertise on this hood ornament because of silly dispute :-(
Greatest hood ornament/mascot ever! Love it x 10!!!!!
Hello & thank you all for the comments. Fun little forum.
By all means, pass this around. I want to find out how rare a piece this is.
It is fun to have such a unique item & I look forward to learning as much as I can about it.
And I like how hood ornaments are called "Mascots" as well. See? I've already learned something..
Cheers!
I want one!!
how sweet is thatttttttttttttt.
Very cool piece!
Wow! The life span of a red VW emblem on the grill of my 1984 GTI was about two weeks (Beastie Boys fans wanted these). This wouldn't have lasted two days in my old neighborhood.
